Major release adds embedded OPC UA server, expanded MQTT/Sparkplug options, SNMP, Scratch Pad data access, and more

Everyone here at Opto is very excited to announce that the latest EPIC firmware update is now live.

Just as you update the OS on your phone to get the latest improvements in security, stability and performance, the OS on your groov EPIC is no different. It is after all, a quad core Linux computer, so updates are very important for the exact same reasons: security, stability, and performance.

And often these updates come with some cool new features. With this release, you'll find several.

Important information about Log4Shell/Log4j (CVE-2021-44228)

Which products are affected, and how to update your affected systems

Opto 22 engineers have addressed the Log4Shell/Log4j vulnerability recently reported in news media this week. Firmware and software updates for affected products are now available. Opto 22 urges you to apply these updates immediately, regardless of whether you're using groov View.

The Log4j vulnerability affects all products running groov View software, including: 

  • GRV-EPIC-PR1, GRV-EPIC-PR2
  • GROOV-AR1, GROOV-AR1-BASE, GROOV-AR1-SNAP
  • GROOV-AT1, GROOV-AT1-SNAP
  • GROOV-SVR-WIN, GROOV-SVR-WIN-BASE, GROOV-SVR-WIN-SNAP

Please note that the following Opto 22 products are NOT affected:

  • groov RIO (GRV-R7-MM1001-10 and GRV-R7-MM2001-10)
  • SNAP I/O brains, SNAP PAC controllers, and the PAC Project software suite

New groov EPIC firmware 3.3.1 is here

Several highly requested features have been added to the latest firmware update for groov EPIC PR1 and PR2.

Even with the Covid pandemic lingering on, our mostly remote team of software engineers at Opto 22 have been hard at work. As a result, we have a groov EPIC firmware update that addresses a bunch of requested features, and like any software update, some bug fixes as well.

Simply known as version 3.3.1, you can freely download and take advantage of these improvements right away.

Firmware update for your groov EPIC I/O modules

Several of the groov EPIC I/O modules have new firmware updates available.

If you're using the groov EPIC system, you'll want to check the list of groov I/O modules that have new versions of firmware available now. These firmware updates contain both enhancements and bug fixes and are available for download on the Opto 22 website.

Important news for PAC Control users

If you are using PAC Control with either SNAP PACs or groov EPIC, please be aware of an urgent bug fix related to how the control engine configures PID loops.

The issue affects:

New groov View R3.5 release adds SNAP PAC I/O units, improves scalability

Just released! groov View R3.5a brings a new feature you've been waiting for: you can now connect to SNAP PAC I/O units directly, instead of going through a controller strategy, and use their tags in your groov View operator interface.  

In addition, the new release has been optimized to improve performance and responsiveness, especially when you have a large number of users. 

And all updates to your groov View interface are now automatically pushed out to users. No need to refresh screens.
