OptoPartner Enginuity shares a recent application success story in the healthcare industry—demonstrating how to quickly scale up production to meet new demand.
Welcome back Daniel Baugh of Enginuity Inc., an IIoT-certified OptoPartner, as he returns as a guest blogger to share some insights on the company's recent groov RIO application.
It's a great story of how a small company was able to achieve large-scale production goals. See how Enginuity and groov RIO helped meet increased demand in the gut biome sector of the healthcare industry.
The Cultured Coconut is a homegrown recipe developed by Canadian Linda Peers to assist people with digestive issues. Using Kefir grains, the coconut probiotic contains 4 trillion CFU (Colony-Forming Unit) per tablespoon. This product is the perfect alternative for people with digestive issues who are also lactose intolerant.
Demand was so high for the product that Linda needed to scale her business. With orders coming in from major retailers such as Costco, the burgeoning company needed to ensure consistency of production to meet the ever-increasing demand. Enter Opto 22 and the Enginuity team.
The fermentation process allows for a delta of >5 degrees Celsius. Anything exceeding the temperature parameter would ruin the batch, resulting in unfulfilled orders.
Enginuity Automation and Robotics engineer Ahmad Kammonah opted to integrate two temperature sensors into the fermentation tanks connected to a groov RIO.
Ignition Edge software is included in groov RIO modules. As the client was looking to maintain and increase their SCADA capabilities, and the dashboard is simple and intuitive, scaling the monitoring system as the production line grows made Opto 22's groov RIO with Ignition the obvious choice.
Additionally, Node-RED (also a programming option with RIO) allowed Ahmad and the team to easily configure the I/O, and thus, the Cultured Coconut production supervisors could remotely monitor the fermenting tank temperature on any device.
Today, thanks to the Enginuity team and groov RIO, Linda Peers’ Cultured Coconut has no apprehension in scaling production to meet the increased market demands across North America.
