Firmware updates for I/O modules

Posted by Ben Orchard on Jan 10, 2024 10:46:00 AM

New features and improved performance are available on groov I/O modules with the click of a button.

A well-known electric car company is somewhat famous for its ability to add features and fix bugs with over-the-air updates to millions of cars. Of course, they are not the only ones with this feature. Many companies have been updating their hardware with firmware updates for decades, but it really captures the imagination when the hardware is something you drive.

Closer to our hearts and minds, Opto 22 has been adding features and squishing bugs on our controllers for more years than most of us can recall (it's our 50th year in 2024!). There are a few SNAP I/O modules that can have their firmware updated via our PAC Manager program—the serial data ones for example—but now with groov EPIC and RIO, ALL our modules can have new features and refined performance added at the click of a button.

More I/O options for groov EPIC

Posted by Janice Colmer on Feb 20, 2020 7:52:21 AM

Another groov I/O module was just released as the groov EPIC system continues to expand.

We've just added GRV-IVIRMS-10 to our growing list of I/O options for
groov EPIC.

As the latest addition to the family of analog voltage input modules, GRV-IVIRMS-10 provides true RMS (root mean square) voltage monitoring for 10 inputs up to 300 VAC/VDC with channel-to-channel isolation and 20-bit resolution. True RMS calculation is critical for non-sinusoidal power monitoring applications such as variable speed drives (VSD), heating controls, computers, HVAC, and solid-state components where typical peak measurement averaging can under- or over-shoot actual voltage by 5 - 40%.

Start EPIC communication to your serial devices

Posted by Janice Colmer on Jul 30, 2019 10:56:51 AM

Learn how to set up, install, and communicate using a groov EPIC serial I/O module.

Many industrial automation applications require communication between the controller and multiple serial devices. The GRV-CSERI-4 module provides four independent and isolated serial ports for this purpose. Each port is software configurable to communicate with RS-232 or RS-485 (half duplex or full duplex) serial devices.

New webinar series: Why groov EPIC?

Posted by Janice Colmer on Nov 8, 2018 2:52:46 PM

Join Opto 22 engineers to learn why groov EPIC is right for your future applications.

The cutting edge technology that’s part of the groov EPIC (Edge Programmable Industrial Controller) system is crucial for IIoT and automation projects in today’s world. With the convergence of OT and IT in recent years, it’s important to understand how groov EPIC is bridging the gap between these operational and information technologies.

This webinar is the first in a multi-part series describing why groov EPIC was developed for the future of automation and IIoT.
