The value of in-person, instructor-led training at the Opto 22 factory and headquarters is evident after working with another great class of Opto students this week—all eager to become groov EPIC experts. And kudos, once again, to the team of Opto trainers who devote their time to developing a class curriculum that is beneficial for all levels of engineering and types of applications.

This month, students made the trip to California from Texas, Oklahoma, Utah and even Canada to attend and spend 4 days immersed in the groov EPIC system—learning all its features, capabilities, and programming options.

The much anticipated return of in-person, instructor-led training at the Opto 22 factory and headquarters became a reality this week! Hats off to the team of Opto trainers as well as the great group of 12 students who made the class a success.

Students traveled from all across the country to attend and spent 4 days immersed in the groov EPIC system—learning all its features, capabilities, and programming options.

New course just added to OptoU online training shows you how to set up authentication, encryption, and trusted communication.

One of the first lessons you have in the groov EPIC Premium Factory training classroom here at Opto headquarters is: Commissioning groov EPIC. Whether you just purchased your first groov EPIC controller, or are a seasoned user, the course shows you how to set up your controller, right out of the box.

You'll now find these step-by-step instructions for commissioning EPIC on OptoU online training. This short course walks you through everything you need to know to get your groov EPIC authenticated and set up for secure, encrypted communication. Let's get started.

Many of you have been asking for groov EPIC Premium Factory Training, and 2023 is the year! After a hiatus from in-person training due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Opto 22 training staff is ready with an updated and more detailed groov EPIC curriculum. 

Here's your chance to get hands-on instruction and some great tips and guidance from Opto engineers, all in a matter of 4 days in (usually sunny) Temecula, California. With each student at their own training station, everyone can program their own groov EPIC Learning Center.

Since it's been a few years, here's a refresher on topics the groov EPIC training covers and what's included in your 4-day agenda.

Like most of you, it seems I’m doing all of my communicating through my computer or mobile device, whether at home or at work. I find myself longing for face-to-face meetings and wanting to visit you and your facility, plant, or remote site to learn more about how you apply Opto products in your applications.

The Outside-In series brings you an outsider’s perspective into the way Opto 22 operates behind the scenes. Today, we’re back in Temecula, CA (not Australia… I know! I was surprised too) for the next day of groov EPIC® system factory training. If you missed the first day, the class was introduced to groov Manage and PAC Control™. Plus, we got to see Terry Orchard demo Linux® secure shell access on the EPIC.

Documenting the journey from the outside world into the world of Opto: First in a series.

After more than a decade as an automation engineer, I recently joined Opto 22’s marketing group. A few weeks ago, my workday was focused on maintaining the cell culture process automation of a world-class pharmaceutical manufacturer. This system had dozens of distributed controllers and hundreds of devices that worked together to deliver thousands of kilograms of the finest monoclonal antibodies you’ve ever seen. It was big.

What I enjoyed most about my job, though, was helping other engineers succeed. In the early years, I learned pretty quickly that you could take a group of smart people, give them bad tools, callous management, and a ridiculous schedule, and they would fail every time. I did the best I could to fix the managerial and scheduling issues, but the tools were always a limitation.

Now it’s my job to help connect other engineers with the kinds of tools and technologies I wish I’d had. I’m kicking it off with a deep-dive into the first place I visited as a new Opto employee: the training room.
