OptoNews Tech tip: A mobile interface for... Optomux?

Posted by Jean Femia on Apr 1, 2015 5:33:00 PM

And the answer is: YES

I know it sounds like an April Fool's joke, but it's really true: you can build a groov mobile interface for your older Optomux system.

So you can monitor and control it from your smartphone or tablet.

It works in spite of the fact that Optomux has been around since 1982, while groov is all about today.

OptoNews: Aging wind farms join the 21st Century

Posted by Jean Femia on Mar 18, 2015 4:30:00 PM

Older wind farms still produce clean energy, but many weren't built for modern monitoring and control.

This lack of remote visibility causes problems for utility companies and other owners, who must immediately respond when regulators call for changes in production.

Posted by Jean Femia on Mar 4, 2015 4:27:00 PM

groov Box becomes a WiFi access point with Netis antenna

Here's a cool new feature for your groov Box, available now: you can create your own private groov WiFi network with WPA2-PSK security.

That's right, the new groov Admin v1.570.39 includes a SoftAP option for GROOV-AR1 and GROOV-AR1-SNAP.

So even if there's no wireless network available, when you're close to the groov Box you can still connect your mobile device to groov and securely use the operator interface you've built.

BEER LOVERS….We’ve got a problem.

Opto 22 exhibited at the ATX – Automation Technology West show this week in Anaheim. The show was one of five shows held at the Anaheim convention center, all centered around a general theme of manufacturing and packaging technologies. With that many shows under one roof it was a bit overwhelming to try and absorb all of the cool new tech being showed off. I've never seen so many robots under one roof.

Which mobile app?

Posted by Jean Femia on Dec 12, 2014 9:10:00 AM

There's a lot of talk these days about using a smartphone or tablet to monitor and even control automation systems and equipment.

Most of us carry around a phone all the time. It's easy and convenient, and we use it for everything: answering email, taking photos, looking up product specs, taking notes, calculating flow, posting on Facebook, calling home, checking a magnetic field.

More and more we find ourselves mixing business and personal uses on mobile, because they're all there in one handy place.
