In this series, I’ve been talking about the strengths of CODESYS for control programming on the groov EPIC platform, but it’s not your only option. You can use CODESYS, Opto 22’s flowchart-based PAC Control, or custom applications built using secure shell access (SSH). Firmware and software updates were released this month to help you get the most from your groov systems.

January 2021 started off with some important new releases from the Opto 22 engineering team. There are significant groov View updates that affect the groov family of products: groov EPIC, groov Box and groov Server for Windows.  We've even updated the PAC Project software suite to version 10.3003.  Here's a quick recap of what you need to know.

Watch these new groov EPIC videos for tips on using your Modbus TCP devices with groov View, PAC Control, Node-RED, and Inductive Automation's Ignition software.

Opto 22 engineer Ben Orchard is back in the Opto 22 studio with several new video lessons on communicating to Modbus TCP devices with a groov EPIC processor.

For each lesson, Ben is using a groov EPIC Learning Center (GRV-EPIC-LC) along with a Modbus SATEC P130 power meter, which is measuring the voltage and frequency of the mains power in our studio.

If you are using PAC Control with either SNAP PACs or groov EPIC, please be aware of an urgent bug fix related to how the control engine configures PID loops.

The issue affects:

• SNAP PAC firmware R10.0a - R10.0f: It is advised you update to SNAP PAC firmware R10.0h immediately.
• groov EPIC (all versions): We recommend you update to groov EPIC R1.4.4.

If you are using PID loops, check your strategy after updating to make sure everything works as you expect.
